Relationships and Potholes

August 1st, 2010

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that marriage was a journey….at least not when I was ten or twelve.  Turns out, it is.  We were in Door County Wisconsin last week and it was beautiful.  I find the natural beauty there to be so serene and peaceful.  And of course, not without its pot holes in the road, not unlike relationships.  The roads, no matter how bad, will get you there, where ever there is.  It’s the stops along the way that add richness and blend experiences to the drive.

So too, I think with marriage.  Love is the foundation and no matter how bumpy things become, it all comes back to the foundation.  Not always easy, especially if you get lost.  I myself am at a crossroads, too many forks in the road. Yankee baseball great Yogi Berra once said, “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.”  Were life that simple.

I wonder what I’ll find around the next corner, more pot holes?  Or a smooth ride.  The potholes hurt my back and break my heart so I’m all for a smooth ride.
